The male and female ward admit both surgical and medical patients. Both wards are staffed by one or two clinicians, a nurse-in charge and second nurse, and ward- and patient attendants. The wards both have four private rooms and work in harmony with the team in theatre and the High-Dependency Unit.

Common general surgical procedures done at MMH are hernia repairs, drainage of abcesses, hysterectomies, skin grafts and exploratory laparotomies for patients with bowel obstruction. Clinical officers specialized in surgery and obstetrics/gynaecology performs the more complex procedures.
