Orphan Care

Due to the increasing number of orphans and the low survival rate of orphans within the first year of life, the hospital decided to offer training to guardians on how to care for these little ones to save their lives. Any orphan below the age of five can be admitted with a guardian for training and support. Orphans who are less than one year old receive infant formula and those over the age of one receive Likuni Phala up to the age of five.

In 2006 the program expanded in order to continue providing support after the orphans reached the age of five. These children receive support in terms of free medical treatment, nutritional support and free schooling through our partnership with Apatsa Private Primary School. Currently there are 75 orphans admitted to Apatsa school. In 2011 the programme registered a total of 307 orphans, 173 under the age of 5 and 134 over five years.
