The Mulanje Benefit Concert 2011.jpg)
The Concert took take place on November 17th at 20:15 pm at the English Reformed Church Amsterdam.
The concert featured the Soprano Virpi Räisänen-Midth, one of Finland’s brightest rising singing talents accompanied by The Dante Quartet, winners of the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Chamber Music in 2007. The evening included pieces from Mozart, Handel, Respighi and Ravel. As promised it was a very special evening. You can see a clip from the concert here!
The congregation of the English Reformed Church (also known as the Engelse Kerk) in Amsterdam have an historical attachment to the Mulanje Mission Hospital which is located at the foot of the Mulanje Mountain in the south of Malawi. We are just one of several organisations who help to support the hospital which provides primary health care to 75 000 people in 72 villages in the catchment area. Our commitment includes providing a small amount of financial support ( 1000 per month). To hear more about this and how you can help contact friendsofmmh@ercadam.nl
The concert raises funds for a specific project each year to improve conditions at the hospital (2008: Children’s Ward 2009: Labour Ward 2010: Men’s ward). For each of these fund-raising events we have collected approx. 15 000 (including donations from the Rotary Club in Amsterdam). Together with sponsorship that we receive from Wilde Ganzen we are able to achieve our final target. This year the raised funds will be used for a renewable energy project to provide solar panels for the Children’s ward which is where reliable electricity is most needed.
Please concider joining the “FRIENDS OF MMH” by committing yourselves to a minimum monthly donation - see more here!
