October news

Resilience is a key theme for all of us at MMH in these hot months before the rains.  The hospital has its own boreholes, pumps and storage but for Water Board users there has been very little piped water supply in the last two months. For staff these shortages mean carrying water in buckets from the nearest manual pump, and when combined with power outages, blackouts, brownouts and/or load shedding,  ordinary tasks such as making a cup of tea or doing the laundry become lengthy and tiring.

Meanwhile we are busy preparing for the start of the malaria spraying programme, working on food distribution for hunger relief amongst the vulnerable in our community, keeping our solar power going, growing mushrooms and harvesting honey at the NRU, finishing work on the new antenatal clinic and adding an asthma clinic to our range of services for those with non-communicable diseases.

We will soon be sending out our October newsletter with more detailed news of all these programmes and more – if you haven’t yet registered to receive it, please do so on the website link.
