Mulanje Mission Hospital as a training institute
Over the years Mulanje Mission Hospital has put more and more emphasis on capacity building of our staff.
For many years we have been well known as a training institute.
Mulanje Mission College of Nursing has trained nurses since 1950. And their services are ever expanding. We are pleased that since April 2005 the college offers a three-year training program for Nurse Midwife Technicians. Another major achievement is the fact that this year’s intake included 9 male students as well, the first ones in the history of Mulanje Mission.
The hospital also serves as a training institute for Clinical Officers and Laboratory Technicians.
Over the last few years we focused and invested a lot in human resources. Training of staff was the key to improve our services and to attract and retain staff. But slowly we are shifting towards a broader approach. In Capacity Building human resources are just one part, organizational and institutional development are just as important. For the coming years we drafted a plan which looks into these aspects as well, e.g. how to improve our systems and procedures, monitoring and evaluation, our organizational structure, conditions of service, job descriptions and our relationship with the District Health Office to lobby for a service agreement with government. Cross cutting in all these activities will be a focus on gender and HIV/AIDS. We will be happy to inform you more extensively on these developments.
Capacity Building Plan
The Mulanje Mission hospital is also affiliated with the Mulanje school community and between improving hospital facilities, we raise awareness for the urgent demands for the school.
